Bramley Apples - The Cook's Choice

From i-Pod To Pie-Pod

Britain’s Bramley growers are trying a new approach to persuade younger people to cook with the classic British apple. The Bramley Campaign is launching the world’s first video ‘pie-cast’ to show just how easy it is to bake a classic Bramley apple pie. The 5 minute video can be downloaded by clicking here.

Celebrating Bramley Apple Week from 3 to 10 February, the ‘pie-cast’ offers inspiration to younger cooks to get baking and features a hapless dinner party host being guided through the process of baking the perfect pie.

Performed by Edinburgh Fringe stalwarts the 1649 Show, a comedic sketch show group describing themselves as ‘young, fertile, and willing to be humiliated for laughs’, the ‘pie-cast’ is certain to raise a laugh among would-be cooks.

Adrian Barlow, Bramley Campaign said, ‘We are experiencing a surge in demand for Bramleys and want to capitalise on this by using new techniques, like the ‘pie-cast’ to reach out to younger consumers.’

Grown in the UK specifically for cooking, Bramley apples are one of the most versatile ingredients around. Unlike eating apples, Bramleys retain their flavour throughout the cooking process and produce a light, airy, moist texture, with a 'melt in the mouth' consistency. Bramleys also count towards your five a day, making them a winning choice in the health stakes, too.
